Board Update: Raise The Roof

We have been warmly embraced by our community as we seek support for our historic building and the incredible community with in it.

In only two weeks we have touched base with media at the Sun Sailor and with Dan Gustafson, who wrote a beautiful piece. You can find printed versions locally of both articles. We are seeking more opportunities to tell our story through media to reach farther into Minnesota.

We are also fortunate to have connected with The Wayzata Chamber, Lake Minnetonka Historical Society and well connected organizations like Wayzata Sailing, which have significant experience navigating the donor world while in positions very similar to our own.

These are much more than conversations. They provide the board a wealth of guidance on how to strategically move forward through our campaign successfully, while leveraging the resources available to us. We are already seeing momentum growing.

Additional discussions are happening with experts in the area of historical restoration and the arts through connections we have with our wonderful board member Senator Ann Johnson Stewart.

So what’s next?

This week our building will have a walk through to assess the level of repair that’s truly needed to bring our 109 year old building up to code. From there, we will see a clearer path forward.

Additionally, we want to assure our neighbors have a voice in what happens in our shared neighborhood. Thus, lawn signs are arriving for our yard and letters are being printed for distribution to the local neighborhood by our families. These letters are informative and welcome neighborhood support in the form of ticket purchases, donations, and collaboration.

Donor letters will also hit the mail soon for stakeholders who are not regularly following our social media or Splash Newsletter. We want to assure they are informed and are given the opportunity to reach out, ask questions and support us in preserving our building and community.

If you, and/or your children, are interested in volunteering to hand out flyers to neighbors or stuff envelopes to donors please email board.president@bluewatertheatre.com to be connected to the Fundraising Committee. We can use as many hands as possible.

Lastly, we realize what stress this all brings to the entire community, and particularly our youngest and those who truly rely on the safe space we provide them to connect, learn, and grow as artists and young adults. Rest assured, we are working diligently and swiftly, keeping open minds and hearts to all the ways that we can continue to keep our space and connection alive.

Henry Wild Jones could never have known that the building he created 109 years ago would one day provide the Wayzata community, and youth from across the metro, with such joy and artistic sanctuary.
